Kids Dance Class in the Park

  • George Reger Park 133 Corry Street Madison, WI, 53704 United States (map)

Are your school age kids bursting at the seams after each busy school week? Get them moving outside with this fun, creative, and energy filled dance class!

Come to outdoor and physically distant dance class on Friday afternoons starting in May and ongoing as weather permits through June 11th at George Reger Park on the East side. There will be summer classes as well, scheduling is still in the works!

Kids learn about physical and spatial concepts of modern dance techniques in classic training exercises but also by exploring the ideas with their own bodies in ways that they generate themselves and that feel like play. The highest priorities are having fun, learning general concepts that are useful for both dance and life at large, and expanding physical and linguistic vocabularies.

These dance classes for are an introduction to modern dance technique - some basic structure and organization to learning movement and dance vocabulary, but with some creative movement and structured improvisation, exploration, and even a little bit of dance making built in.

Families or bubbles with multiple children are welcome to come together - The age range is the developmental target for class content, but kids older and younger are welcome to participate as desired. There is also a playground close by at the park to pass the time for those who are not dancing to play while waiting.

Adults and children 5+ please wear a mask and remember to hold a safe distance from other families/bubbles.

This class is a free/donation based offering of the Isthmus Dance Collective. Donations are accepted through PayPal, Patreon, personal check, or cash in the basket.
